The Compass Program is dedicated to offering people with an intellectual disability a stimulating learning environment which provides opportunities to explore the natural world, the arts and music, healthy lifestyles and essential life skills.  All lessons are taught so the participants have a chance to learn at their own level and can increase their understanding and appreciation of their world.
The classroom hours are 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. , Monday to Friday.
Our motto is “Tell me and I will forget; Show me and I may remember; Involve me and I will understand”.

SELF-ADVOCATES:

Community Living Quinte West is pleased to have established a Self-Advocates Committee. Our committee name is E.R.R.A., which represents what we believe is important:  Education, Rights, Responsibility and Awareness. Our tag line is “Think Outside The Box”.

We have been busy over the last few months reorganizing our committee. The committee consists of 7 members represented by individuals we support and 2 mentors who assist the committee.
Our meetings are held the 3rd Friday of each month at our Canal St. location between 2-3 pm.

We have attended a couple of conferences both in and out of town and have made some good contacts at these events. We attended a conference in Brantford and one at the Holiday Inn in Trenton that was hosted by Community Living Campbellford and Brighton.

The committee is strategizing on how to fundraise over the next year so that we can raise money to attend future conferences and seminars. One of our current fundraisers is an in house draw for a $50.00 gift card from a different store once a month. This has been very successful over the past couple of months.

Putting together our mission, by-laws and terms of reference has been a challenge for all of us. There is some good information out there that we have been using as a guide.

One of our members sits on the CLQW Board of Directors and on the Interview Committee for the hiring of new staff.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Connie McLean at connie@clqw.ca and she would be happy to assist or put you in touch with one of our members.
