Rainy Weather Didn’t Dampen Golfers Enthusiasm
Well, the third annual Tee-off for Inclusion proved to be another great success! This year’s tournament had 13 teams! Though the weather was somewhat dreary (we have come to expect that with our golf tournaments), all participants thoroughly enjoyed their day at Timber Ridge Golf Course. Fortunately, the rain held off until most of the teams had completed their rounds. A very special “Thank you” to Kris Newbury for his ongoing support of Community Living Quinte West. Kris Newbury, a forward for the New York Rangers, is our celebrity guest each year, and he always provides excitement for the day.
After a wet start to their game, Joe Perone, Denise Ritchie, Ross Efsthiadis, and Rob Rykaszewski played through to win the tournament with a score of 63. Congratulations! They have assured us that they will be back to defend their title next year. Winner of the Longest Drive for men was Steve Picco and for women was Kim Van Dyk. The Closest to the Pin was won by Andrew Hutchison for the men. There was no winner for the women. The Putting contest was won by Steven Ovenden.
A new feature to our tournament this year was the Bill Slimmon Memorial Award for Perseverance, given to the team who sees the most improved score in the back nine over the front nine. Bill Slimmon was a long time, avid supporter of Community Living Quinte West and true to form he played with heart at our 2009 rainy golf tournament. Very shortly after last year’s tournament, Mr. Slimmon passed away very suddenly. In honour of a fine man and loyal supporter of Community Living, this year’s Perseverance Award was given to Dan Coleman, Paul Richardson, Steven Ovenden, and Dean Impey. Congratulations gentlemen!
Community Living Quinte West graciously thanks all of the sponsors and donors that helped make this year’s tournament a success. We are grateful for your continued support! We welcome everyone to come out for next year’s tournament on June 11, 2011.
